The Barrington family papers contain eight reels of correspondence and papers of the Barrington family of Barrington Hall, Essex, England, 1490-1820, and four reels of Barrington family account books, 1622-1672. Major family correspondents are Sir Thomas Barrington, member of Parliament and member of the Parliamentary Committee for Essex during the Puritan Revolution; his sons, Sir Francis Barrington and Sir John Barrington; and Thomas Barrington, eldest son of Sir John. Most of the papers concern family matters, but there is also substantial correspondence relating to the military affairs of Essex and other associated counties during the Civil War.
